In conjunction and cooperation with the ACO, IMSA announces the following starting point for Prototype
Regulations for 2008, using the ACO Technical Regulations for “Le Mans” Prototypes (2008) as
published 20 December, 2007 as the starting point:
1) IMSA supports the modifications to the “Definitions” (“LM”P1 & “LM”P2) asserted in Art. 1 of the
Regulations. However, as agreed with the ACO, and in order to promote the stability of the
competition in the American Le Mans Series, IMSA will transition to this definition over a period of
time, and technical regulations designed to reinforce the distinction between “LM”P1 and “LM”P2 will
be phased in by IMSA in accordance with the general guidelines provided by IMSA to the
manufacturers.
2) Minimum weight “LM”P1: Will remain at 925kg.
3) Minimum weight “LM”P2: 800kg
4) Minimum weights for all classes will include all organizer provided equipment.
5) Waivers & Balance of Performance, Prototype cars:
a. All waivers for existing cars starting in the same configuration that they finished the 2007
season (tire/engine/chassis combination) will remain in place for the start of the 2008
season. Where waivers were set to expire at the end of the 2007 season, they are hereby
extended into the 2008 season. These waivers include weight, restrictor and pit storage
tank height modifications.
b. Waivers for cars new to the series will be considered upon application (per ALMS SSR
Attachment 2).
c. Use of the 2008 “LM”P1 gasoline restrictor table will be considered upon application on a
car by car basis, otherwise “LM”P1 gasoline restrictors remain the same as 2007.
6) Fuel Tanks:
a. Basic IMSA 100/E10 Gasoline capacity remains at 90L on board for all classes.
b. IMSA will issue a specification for an “E85” fuel. The Maximum fuel capacity is 110L fuel
on board.
7) IMSA reserves the right to make a modification to the balance of performance between prototype
classes in order to maintain the desired relative performance and competition. Such a change would
be considered at or about the mid-point of the season.
